CHANDLER, AZ, July 15,
1999 -- The childhood friends and co-owners of Fairytale Brownies began a
new chapter in their fairytale story when the Greater Phoenix Chamber of
Commerce recently named them the 1999 Innovative Small Business Person of
the Year on June 24, 1999. Eileen Spitalny and David Kravetz were honored for
their unique product development, successful marketing strategies and creative
use of the Internet.
Founded in 1992, Fairytale Brownies has grown from a small local startup to a
mail-order bakery with worldwide sales and growth of more than 50% every year.
Premium ingredients, unique packaging, innovative marketing and superior
customer service have earned Fairytale Brownies a strong reputation and growing
mailing list of loyal customers.
The signature brownies are baked in small batches using a 42-year-old secret
family recipe belonging to David’s Mom. Real butter and imported Belgian
chocolate are used in all 12 brownie varieties. Every product is certified
Kosher. The company’s signature purple packaging, elegant wood boxes and
corporate logo gifts make a great presentation. Word of mouth and publicity in
papers such as The New York Times and The Wine Spectator have fueled the
company’s growth on a limited advertising budget.
Four years ago the partners registered the Internet domain name
www.brownies.com and now take more than 30% of all orders over their "easy to
use" website. Website features include secure ordering, movies of the baking
process, job application, seasonal specials and a database of online order
history.
Last year Fairytale Brownies sold more than 800,000 brownies with over 50% of
those sales occurring during the Winter Holiday Season. The company recently
relocated to a larger bakery in Chandler, Arizona and will begin offering
regularly scheduled tours of the facility after their grand opening in October.
Eileen and David are hoping the tours will become a popular destination for the
thousands of tourists who visit the Phoenix area every year.
